I cant take any credit for the beautiful lines of this plane, check out  Jartworld.com for more information and plans from the designer himself, Reed Sherman.

I did however build this one, and did a build log on it. I learnt lots on this build, mainly from others in the RcGroups forum and made quite a few mistakes, but that is all part of the learning curve. Basically  its a blue foam shaped fuselage which was then covered with epoxy and glass, sanded and painted until shinny and smooth, then an epoxy mold was taken from it, which proved interesting....see the build log for details. The wing and stab are blue foam cores with a thin veil 1oz I think, 6oz bias cut twill carbon and 3oz uni carbon under that. And there is more, it has 18oz tapered uni carbon spars set into the foam with vertical webbing between top and bottom spars.  Definitely the strongest wing I've ever made, and could be  just a little over engineered. No flexing is apparent, even when concrete blocks are involved.   The fuse is marked out and then holes cut to fit the wing and stab through, which are then glued in place with epoxy and some cloth, making it a one piece plane. Another first for me, transportation is no problem as its not really that big, plus being one piece makes it very strong and acrobatic, my favourite manoeuvre being the cartwheel!

Flying

What a plane to fly, very stable and predictable, but with a phenomenal roll rate. It has made me revise my other planes and set them up with larger throws and bigger control surfaces as they are a bit boring after the Jart. Orientation was a problem initially, solved with a bright colour scheme, my other problem being radio interference due to the high carbon content of the fuselage, something I'm still working on. The glitches have caused a few spectacular impacts with terra-firma, the fuse proving to be the weak point, (well it wouldn't be the wings would it?). It all happens rather quickly and thought it was my flying to start with, keeps me busy in the workshop with the repairs anyhow. I will be making a new fuse to go with this set of wings soon, mega lay-up. Of course am going to want a lighter weight one as well so plenty of building for the future. Managed to get some footage of my plane in action, though I was a bit nervous and camera shy, plus the wind was rubbish. If you want to see a Jart being put through its paces, check out these video's.

Jart partII 6.2mb. 25-30mph winds, and shot into the sun so a little dark.

Jart partII (high res)  48 mb.
